Terms of Use
The rules for using Novelith as a reader, subscriber, tipper, author, commenter, or account holder.
1. The service
Novelith is a UK-centric web platform for original fiction. Readers can browse public stories, follow authors, comment where enabled, report content, download eligible files, subscribe to individual authors, and send tips. Authors can publish stories, chapters, posts, and profile information subject to these terms and our moderation rules.
Novelith is web-first. Paid reading access is provided through the website and any product-approved downloads. We do not promise app-store native subscriptions or PWA offline reading unless a later version of the product rules says so.
2. Accounts and eligibility
You are responsible for your account, sign-in method, and activity under your account. Do not share access in a way that bypasses subscription or moderation controls. You must provide accurate information and keep contact details up to date where we need them for account, billing, or safety notices.
Mature content is hidden by default. You must be at least 18 years old to enable mature-content browsing, publish mature works, or access areas marked for mature readers. We may remove access or content if maturity controls are bypassed or misused.
Account and product notifications are controlled from Settings. New-chapter, subscription lifecycle, moderation outcome, and digest emails include unsubscribe links for their category, while service-critical legal or safety notices may still be sent where required.
3. Subscriptions and tips
Author subscriptions are web-first subscriptions to a specific creator at the price and billing interval shown at checkout. Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Tips are one-time payments unless the checkout page says otherwise.
Payments, billing portal access, tax collection where applicable, and creator payout onboarding are handled by Stripe. Novelith may take a platform fee from creator subscriptions and tips before funds are paid out through Stripe Connect. Card details are entered into Stripe-hosted surfaces and are not stored by Novelith.
4. Cancellation and end-of-contract notice
You can cancel an author subscription from Settings by opening the Stripe billing portal for that subscription. Unless Stripe or checkout terms state otherwise, a cancellation stops the next renewal and paid access continues until the end of the current paid billing period.
When you return from the billing portal after cancellation, Novelith records a durable end-of-contract notice against your account with the timestamp, author, and effective end date where Stripe provides one. Novelith may also queue a subscription lifecycle confirmation email according to your notification preferences. Do not put payment or personal details in support messages unless we ask for the minimum information needed to locate the transaction.
5. User-generated content
You keep ownership of copyright in stories, chapters, posts, comments, profile text, and other UGC you create. By posting it on Novelith, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, transmit, moderate, adapt for formatting, promote on Novelith surfaces, and make it available to users according to your selected visibility and access settings.
You must only publish content you own or have permission to use. You are responsible for copyright, attribution, age ratings, warnings, and the accuracy of claims you make about your work. Do not upload material that infringes rights or exposes private information without permission.
6. Prohibited content and conduct
- Illegal content, instructions for serious harm, sexual content involving minors, exploitation, or non-consensual intimate material.
- Harassment, hate, threats, doxxing, impersonation, spam, scams, malware, scraping, or attempts to bypass account, payment, access, or moderation controls.
- Copyright-infringing works, plagiarised stories, unauthorised AI or third-party material where rights are not clear, or content that misrepresents authorship.
- Mature content that is intentionally mislabelled, hidden from required tags, or used to target users who have not chosen to see mature material.
7. Moderation and appeals
We may review, label, restrict, demonetise, hide, remove, or preserve content and account records where needed to enforce these terms, protect users, comply with law, handle reports, or investigate abuse. We may suspend or terminate accounts for serious or repeated breaches.
If we take moderation action and an appeal route is available, you can use the appeal instructions in the notice or contact support@novelith.co.uk. We may keep moderation records to support safety, legal compliance, and consistent decisions.
8. Availability, changes, and contact
We may update the service, change features, fix errors, remove inactive or unlawful content, or update these terms when the product or legal requirements change. We will use reasonable care and skill in providing the service but cannot promise that every page or feature will always be available.
